The Socio-Economic Inclusion of Extremely Poor Internally Displaced People (IDPs) and Residents of Host Communities in Puntland (SEIPP), spearheaded by GIZ, is a beacon of hope for many in Garowe, Somalia. The project’s goal is to empower vulnerable communities, especially women and youth, by fostering socio-economic inclusion through education, financial management, and sustainable livelihoods.

The stories of individuals like Qali Abshir Nour exemplify the power of small interventions. Once a widow with seven children, Qali transformed her life through financial management classes and micro-enterprise training. With support from the SEIPP project, she turned a humble shop into a thriving business, securing a stable income and a future for her children. Her participation in the Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) has further helped her expand her savings and dreams.
In Jilab 1 IDP camp, Sahra Hassan Warsame’s journey highlights the transformative power of education. A former drought victim, Sahra has completed training in photography and videography and is on her way to realizing her dream of becoming a journalist. Despite limited formal education, Sahra’s story is one of grit and determination, proving that with the right support, individuals can change the trajectory of their lives.
The SEIPP project also emphasizes the importance of social cohesion. Through sports, community policing, and capacity-building initiatives, it seeks to bridge gaps between different clans and foster collaboration. By empowering local leaders and young people, the project helps pave the way for a more peaceful and unified society.
This project not only offers financial aid but also cultivates hope, strength, and resilience, transforming the lives of individuals and communities in Garowe. Through empowerment and inclusion, the SEIPP project proves that sustainable change is possible, even in the face of adversity.
